Work Zone Awareness Week Declared by Governor Stein

Between 2019 and 2024, over 217 people died in work zones, including 47 deaths last year alone. Mark Ezzell, director of the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program, emphasized that work zones are especially hazardous due to the close proximity of workers to moving traffic, urging both drivers and workers to stay alert to prevent fatal accidents. BCSO Carries Out Search Warrants on All 26 Brunswick County Vape Stores

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants at all 26 vape and tobacco stores in the county, finding 25 of them allegedly selling illegal THC and psilocybin products. While some THC products are legal in North Carolina, the seized items exceeded legal limits. Authorities, with help from other agencies, traced the products to a Wilmington distribution center.

The operation led to the seizure of nearly 690 pounds of marijuana, 118 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, one firearm, and $104,000 in cash. Nearly 20 individuals now face felony charges.

Sheriff Brian Chism expressed concern over packaging designed to appeal to minors, such as products resembling candy. Captain Jeff Beck noted these items have even been found in schools, warning of their potential dangers. Sheriff Chism vowed continued enforcement and pledged to support similar efforts across the state.
