Brunswick County Commissioners to Review Potential Stormwater Ordinance Changes

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners is considering how to address flooding and stormwater issues. Staff reported that over 28,000 structures are currently located in flood zones, with most being larger than 600 square feet. The deputy county manager recommended a study to explore creating a stormwater utility, which he said would be the most effective solution. Commissioners also discussed whether flooding is more affected by new development or older infrastructure. A cost analysis for the potential utility will be presented at the next board meeting. Brunswick County Volunteers - A Big Help!

Brunswick County’s Volunteer Services Program had a remarkable 2024–2025 fiscal year, thanks to the dedication and generosity of community members who gave their time to serve others.

A total of 352 volunteers contributed 44,129 hours of service across various departments. Among them were 137 volunteers at Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services (BCSAPS), who provided 18,196 hours of care and support for animals in need.

The estimated value of all volunteer hours reached an impressive $1,323,870.

The program also welcomed 25 new volunteers this year, and each individual’s contributions have made a meaningful impact.

A special thank you goes to Volunteer Services Director Monique Stenquist and her team for their exceptional leadership.
