Volunteers Needed for Wetland Planting

The North Carolina Coastal Federation is seeking volunteers to help with a wetland planting event at Carolina Beach State Park on Oct. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. as part of its ongoing restoration project. The effort includes removing invasive species, building oyster reefs, and planting native vegetation to improve wildlife habitat and water quality in the Lower Cape Fear River region. Volunteers will assist in planting the final 5,000 native plugs, adding to more than 100,000 already planted through community support and partnerships. The work will be physically demanding in muddy, wet, and hot conditions, but all necessary supplies, equipment, refreshments, and first aid will be provided on-site. (WECT)
