THE NEWS
The Town of Leland Wants Your Help to Plan the Future for Tourism
There will be a meeting held on Thursday, April 10th from 10am until 1pm to get input from the community about expanding tourism. The goal is to develop a five year strategic plan to enhance tourist initiatives. For those unable to attend, the town will accept input online until April 19th.
For more information on the town’s planning efforts, email Barnes Sutton at [email protected] or call (910) 742-8543.
Questions Remain About Possible Changes to Flood Mitigation Regulations
On Monday, Leland staff was instructed to begin drafting several amendments that would expand the applicability of its current flood plane development ordinance, increase what’s called the “freeboard requirement” from 2 feet to four feet, limit density in flood hazard areas and prohibit the use of fill.
This comes following the storm from last September that dumped 20 inches in some of the area and is considered to be a “1000-year rain event.”
However - there is a question regarding the legality of such a move since it could result in “downsizing”. For more info - check out Port City Daily’s website.
