BCSO Needs Help in a Car Break-in in Calabash

Suspect in Calabash Care Break-In
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying an individual involved in a Breaking & Entering and Theft from a Motor Vehicle incident that took place on June 2, 2025, at the Minuteman, located at 9011 Beach Dr., Calabash.
Although the image quality is poor, the person in question is a subject of interest and was a passenger in the vehicle shown (excluding the truck).
Anyone who recognizes this individual or has relevant information is encouraged to contact Deputy Bryce Sutton at 910-363-6729. The Sheriff’s Office appreciates the community’s support in maintaining safety.
BCS Announce Future Teacher Scholarships

Brunswick Built Scholarship Winners
Brunswick County Schools announced the recipients of the 2025 Brunswick Built Scholarship at the Board of Education meeting on June 3. The scholarship supports students pursuing careers in education, with recipients committing to teach at BCS after earning their degrees. This initiative aims to develop future educators within the community. The 2025 scholarship recipients include Nathaniel Brown, Isabella Bullard, Liv Hobbs, Katie Del Key, Doug Manders, Amadis Levassa, Maisy Morse, and Olivia Rogers.
House Fires Break Out Sunday in Leland Due to Storms
A lightning strike caused a house fire in Leland on Sunday, which firefighters quickly contained to the attic. Crews arrived before 2:30 p.m. at the two-story home on St. Kitts Way and successfully extinguished the fire, though significant water damage occurred throughout the house. No injuries were reported, but the residents were displaced and are staying with family.
Two additional lightning strikes were reported nearby in Crofters Pointe and Birch Creek, but no fires were found at either location. Several mutual aid departments, including Brunswick County EMS, Wilmington Fire Department, and others, assisted in the response. Read more at wect.com.

13 year old Wendy Benito was found safe. In yesterday’s issue we reported her missing from BCSO reports and we’re glad to hear a happy ending!

Music Bingo at Local’s Tavern
Every Wednesday at Local’s Tavern Sherri so Very hosts music trivia starting at 630pm. They are located at 1107 New Pointe Blvd. (The strip in front of the Leland Wal-Mart).
Wednesday Night Bingo at the Gio Fund Event Center
Wednesday Night Bingo takes place at the Gio Fund Event Center, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and the first of ten games beginning at 6:30 p.m. All participants are required to purchase a three-pack of ten games for $20. Additional sheets, as well as food and drinks, are available for purchase. Prizes for each game vary based on the number of game cards sold, with the top prize for game ten reaching up to $500. Outside food and drinks are not permitted. The Gio Fund Event Center is located at 117 Village Rd NE Unit G in Leland.
Trivia Night at Brunswick Beer XChange
Food Trucks and Trivia at BBX. Food Trucks will be there. Fun starts at 7:00 pm and there are prizes for 1st and 2nd place! BBX is located at 113 Village Road in Leland.
