The Town of Leland announced it will begin removing debris from the home that exploded on Suncrest Way on May 16. Investigators from Leland Fire/Rescue and Police have been gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses since the blast, which damaged multiple homes in the Magnolia Greens neighborhood. The remains of the home will be taken down to help determine the cause of the explosion, which is still unknown. The investigation involves local officials as well as the State Fire Marshal, SBI, and ATF. Heavy equipment will be used during the process. Read more at wect.com.
Inlet Currents - What Are They?
After four people were swept far offshore in Holden Beach, officials are warning about the dangers of inlet currents. Terry Hoben from Oak Island Water Rescue explains that these currents, like rip currents but often stronger, can quickly pull people thousands of feet out to sea—even from shallow water. Many beachgoers are unaware of inlet currents, despite their risks. Hoben advises staying calm, floating, and swimming parallel to shore if caught in one. He also emphasizes watching beach flag warnings: green (low risk), yellow (moderate), and red (high risk—avoid the water). Read more at wwaytv3.com.
