Southport Brush Fire Extinguished

Southport Police and Fire crews responded Monday to a brush fire and a downed live power line off E. Leonard Street. According to the Southport Fire Department, Duke Progress was called to handle the line, and once it was secured, firefighters extinguished the brush fire, which had spread across a field near Powerhouse Road. Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry Schedule Changes Today

The Southport-Fort Fisher ferry will transition to its full winter schedule on Sept. 9, running through April 14, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

From Monday to Friday, departures from Southport will run at 5:30 a.m., 7 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:15 p.m., 4 p.m., 4:45 p.m., and 6:15 p.m.

Departures from Fort Fisher will be offered at 6:15 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:15 p.m., 4 p.m., 4:45 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. (WECT)

Calabash Moves Forward with New Waterfront Park Plans

The Town of Calabash is moving ahead with plans for a new waterfront park between Beach Drive SW and Town View Place SW after delays caused by stormwater permit issues. The first phase—a pedestrian bridge over the Calabash River—has already been completed. Town Administrator Michael Price expects permitting to wrap up in the coming months, paving the way for construction. Planned features include a boardwalk with gazebo, ADA-accessible kayak launch, playground, public restroom, and open green space. (WWAY)

Trivia Thursday Night at Brunswick Beer XChange

Brunswick Beer XChange, located at 113 Village Rd in Leland, hosts Trivia Night every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., featuring weekly food trucks and prizes for both first and second place.

Tuesday Night Trivia at Local’s Tavern

Local’s Tavern, located at 1107 New Pointe Blvd, Leland, invites the community to Trivia Tuesday with Sherri, held every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Guests can enjoy an evening of fun questions, great food, and refreshing drinks while competing for prizes and bragging rights as trivia champions. Hosted by Sherri, the event promises plenty of laughs and a lively atmosphere. The weekly trivia night lasts about 1 hour and 45 minutes and is open to anyone looking for a great night out at Local’s Tavern.
