THE NEWS
Fall Fun Begins at Northwest Land & Cattle Pumpkin Patch
Northwest Land & Cattle has opened its third annual pumpkin patch, offering families a mix of fall fun and farm life. The fifth-generation farm, owned by AJ Stanaland, features a wide selection of pumpkins, over 10 kid-friendly activities, photo spots like a new pumpkin arch, seasonal drinks, homemade treats, and local goods at its on-site store. Admission is free, the patch is pet-friendly, and hours run Thursday–Sunday. Live music and vendors will join the festivities starting Sept. 27–28 through the end of October. (WWAY)
Repairs Set to Start at New Bridge Site in Southport, Says NCDOT
NCDOT will begin two months of repair work next week on E. Moore Street at the new Southport bridge near the Turtlewood subdivision. Temporary stop signals will manage traffic during construction, and drivers should expect delays and use caution. (WECT)
Patient Health Data at Risk After Goshen Medical Center Breach
Goshen Medical Center has reported a data breach that may have exposed patient information at several locations, including Southport, Whiteville, and Elizabethtown. Unauthorized access to files occurred on Feb. 15 and was confirmed after an investigation launched in March. While officials say there is no evidence of misuse, GMC has notified law enforcement, added security measures, and is reviewing its data protection policies. Patients concerned about identity theft are encouraged to place fraud alerts or credit freezes with credit agencies. (WECT)
