Fawn Season is Here - What to Do

Most fawns are born in late spring to early summer, and it's normal for them to be left alone for hours while their mother returns twice daily. According to Madge Matteo of Morgan Creek Wildlife Rescue, signs a fawn may need help include lying on its side, calling out for over 40 minutes, being covered in insects, or having curled ear tips. If you find a fawn near a deceased nursing doe or one appears distressed for several hours, contact a local wildlife rehabber. It’s usually best to leave fawns alone, as their mothers typically return. Keeping a fawn as a pet is illegal in most areas. For help, call 1-877-WILDHELP or 910-800-0534 in Brunswick County.
