Leland Police Hold Their Night Out

The Leland Police Department hosted its annual National Night Out on Tuesday at Northwest District Park, drawing hundreds of residents. The event promotes awareness of police programs such as drug prevention, town watch, and community safety. Attendees had the chance to meet with officers and share concerns, though Leland is ranked among the 100 safest cities in the U.S. According to resident Angel Vega, the community feels safe and well-patrolled. Agencies including the Wilmington Police Department, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, Leland Fire Department, and State Highway Patrol also participated, showcasing their equipment. (WWAY)

Applications Are Being Accepted for BCSO Charitable Foundation

The Brunswick Sheriff’s Charitable Foundation is now accepting applications from non-profit organizations to be considered for donations from the proceeds of its 14th Annual Sheriff’s Charity Ball, scheduled for March 6, 2026. Selected recipients will receive varying donation amounts depending on the event’s success. Applications must be submitted electronically at www.sheriffscharity.com and should include the organization’s history, mission, community impact, and any specific project the funds would support. Brunswick County Voting Machines Inspected

With municipal elections approaching, Brunswick County election officials began testing voting machines on Oct. 7 to ensure accuracy ahead of November’s contests. Volunteers at the Board of Elections building conducted “logic and accuracy” tests, using pre-marked ballots to confirm machines record results correctly. Once verified, machines are sealed until election day. Officials emphasized the importance of reliable equipment due to the county’s history of close races, such as Southport’s 2023 mayoral contest. Election official Sara LaVere urged residents to confirm their voter registration before the Oct. 11 deadline to avoid issues at the polls. Are you registered? Click here to look up your information.
