THE NEWS

Bills Introduced to Force PFAS Polluters to Pay

Two bipartisan bills in the North Carolina legislature aim to hold PFAS polluters accountable. In the Senate, Majority Leader Michael Lee filed Senate Bill 666, the 2025 Water Safety Act, which would require the Department of Environmental Quality to set PFAS emission limits by October and create a $56 million fund to reimburse public utilities for PFAS filtration. In the House, Rep. Ted Davis filed House Bill 569, PFAS Pollution and Polluter Liability, which would make PFAS manufacturers financially responsible if their pollution contaminates water sources used by public utilities. Davis emphasized that polluters—not ratepayers—should bear the cost of water treatment. Both bills are in committee and have bipartisan support. Read the whole story on WWAY’s website.
