Pet Scammers Are Scamming, Don’t Get Scammed

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an online pet scam after a local woman lost money trying to buy a puppy. She paid a deposit through a website that later vanished, only to reappear under a different name using the same photos. Authorities urge caution when purchasing pets online and recommend researching sellers, verifying references, speaking via phone or video call, and avoiding unsecured payment apps. The sheriff’s office reminds the public that scammers often exploit people’s love for animals. (WWAY)
