Dogwood Road Temporarily Closed

Dogwood Road NE Closure and Detour

A section of Dogwood Road NE in Brunswick County will be closed in both directions for two weeks starting Monday, October 6, at 10 a.m., to allow crews to install a raw water transmission main. The closure, located east of Strawberry Hill Drive NE, is expected to last until Friday, October 17, at 3 p.m. Drivers should use Mt. Misery Road NE as a detour. (CFPUA)

Operation Crash Reduction Currently Active

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is taking part in Operation Crash Reduction, a statewide safety campaign by the NC Governor’s Highway Safety Program. Deputies will increase enforcement to target unsafe driving and encourage motorists to slow down, reminding drivers that speeding can have life-altering consequences and urging everyone to follow posted speed limits. The Operation is currently active and will run through October 12th. (WWAY)

BCSO Need Help Finding Missing Southport Teen.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 15-year-old Taj Parker, who was last seen around 3:45 p.m. on October 6 leaving the Abbington Oaks area of Southport. Parker is described as a 6′5″ Black male, weighing 175 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a gray and black hoodie, navy blue sweatpants, and carrying a backpack. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or contact BCSO at (910) 253-2777. (WECT)

Brunswick County Intercultural Festival this Saturday

The Brunswick County Intercultural Festival returns to Leland on Saturday, October 11, 2025! Enjoy a full day of music, dance, and cultural experiences at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, featuring the International Village, craft vendors, and delicious food. Special thanks to all the performers, participants, vendors, and visitors who make this celebration possible.

PetSense Adopt-A-Thon this Saturday

PetSense Leland will host its Fall Adopt-a-thon this Sunday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1215 West Gate Drive. The event aims to find loving homes for homeless pets and raise funds for local rescues. More than 40 vendors, including food and beverage options, will be on-site. Adoptions will be available from Wagon Tails Farm Rescue, Coastal Carolina Saint Bernard Rescue, Hamilton’s Healing Arts, Inc., Shelby’s Grace Animal Rescue, Adopt-an-Angel, Cape Fear Critters, and It’s a Jungle Pet Rescue.
