There’s a Storm a Brewin’

We are not trying to sound alarmist but just know there’s a disturbance in the Atlantic that may give us our next named storm over the next 2-7 days. Be Prepared.

Hurricane Preparedness Tips: Stay Safe Before, During, and After the Storm

Hurricane season can bring powerful winds, heavy rain, and dangerous storm surges. Being prepared ahead of time is key to protecting yourself, your family, and your property.

1. Create an Emergency Plan

Know your evacuation routes, identify a safe shelter, and ensure all family members understand the plan. Keep important documents, emergency contacts, and medical information in a waterproof container.

2. Build an Emergency Kit

Stock at least three days’ worth of supplies, including non-perishable food, bottled water, flashlights, batteries, a first-aid kit, medications, and hygiene products. Don’t forget pet supplies if you have animals.

3. Protect Your Home

Secure windows with storm shutters or plywood, clear gutters, and bring outdoor furniture and loose items inside. If you live in a flood-prone area, consider sandbags or other flood barriers.

4. Stay Informed

Monitor reliable weather sources for updates. Sign up for local emergency alerts and follow evacuation orders promptly.

5. After the Storm

Avoid flooded areas, watch out for downed power lines, and document any property damage for insurance purposes.

Preparedness saves lives. By acting early and staying alert, you can significantly reduce the risks hurricanes pose to you and your community.

Missing Teen

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing 16-year-old, Serenity Helen Tedder. She was last seen at 11:01 p.m. on Wednesday. Serenity is 5’4” tall, weighs approximately 140 pounds, and has shoulder-length bleached reddish-blonde hair with blue and green in it. She was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, black yoga pants, and brown furry Crocs. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is urged to contact the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 253-2777 or call 911 immediately. (Facebook)

Poker at BBX Tonight

Trivia at Local’s Tomorrow Night

Trivia Tuesday with Sherri So Very at Local’s Tavern (1107 New Pointe Blvd #9) offers a fun-filled evening of challenging questions, great food, drinks, and good company. Starting at 6:30 PM every Tuesday, Sherri hosts a lively trivia competition covering a variety of topics, giving participants the chance to win prizes and earn bragging rights as the ultimate trivia champion. Located just south of the bridge, Local’s Tavern provides the perfect setting for laughs, friendly competition, and an enjoyable night out.

Cell Phone Photography Class Tomorrow morning

Katie D Photography will host “Cell Phone Photography 101” at Southport Waterfront Park (146-176 E Bay St), a 90-minute class designed to help participants take better images with their phones. The first 30 to 45 minutes will be dedicated to discussion, followed by about an hour of hands-on photography and review.
