Leland 2045 Plan Receives State Certification

Leland's population is projected to surpass 74,000 by 2045, prompting the town to update its "Leland 2045" plan, now certified by the state to ensure balanced development and environmental protection. Originally adopted in 2021, the plan was revised to meet the requirements of the Coastal Area Management Act. Planning Director Ben Andrea says the certification allows the town to guide future development and zoning while preserving natural resources like rivers and creeks. Residents, including Bruce Overton, support the effort to manage rapid growth and protect the environment. (WECT)
