THE NEWS

Beach Drive Beach Bridge Re-opens in Calabash

A new, taller, and longer bridge over the Calabash River opened ahead of schedule, replacing a 1975 structure that frequently required emergency repairs after storms. The updated bridge on Beach Drive SW (N.C. 179 Business) enhances a key coastal route, especially for evacuations, with improved flood resilience. Though it still has two lanes, the bridge features wider lanes and shoulders, plus a new multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists.
