Fire Marshall’s Unexpected Visit Doesn’t Work Out For Local Gym
Eternal Fitness in northern Brunswick County has been temporarily shut down after an unannounced visit from the county fire marshal, who cited zoning and safety concerns. The gym's owner, Brandon Cala, said the issues involved permitting, occupancy limits, and a required door modification. Two neighboring businesses, Bridge Dance Arts and Mission Fit, were also reportedly affected. With about 800 members and 13 employees, Cala expressed frustration over the sudden closure and potential financial impact. The county stated that the business was operating in a space zoned for storage rather than assembly occupancy, requiring adjustments for safety compliance. If the process takes too long, Cala is considering a temporary relocation while awaiting approval to reopen.

Leland Home Explosion Update
The property management company for Three Oaks at Magnolia Greens has provided an update on the home explosion in Leland on May 16. In a letter to residents, CEPCO acknowledged frustration over the lack of information and assured the community that updates will be shared as soon as they are verified. Starting June 19, fire department personnel, State Bureau of Investigation investigators, and insurance representatives will conduct an on-site investigation. The Leland Fire Department is awaiting lab results from samples collected at the scene. Traffic in the area will be impacted for three to four days, with Suncrest Way blocked off and residents needing to park elsewhere. The official cause of the explosion will be announced once the fire department completes its investigation. Restoration of the affected area will begin after the insurance company has reviewed the incident. Read more at wect.com.
