The Bombers Are Back

Bombers Australian Rules Football Match
Australian rules football, often called Aussie Rules or footy, is a sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval-shaped field, with the goal of scoring by kicking an oval-shaped ball through the taller posts (6 points) or the smaller posts (1 point). It involves running with the ball, kicking, hand-passing, tackling, and leaping to catch or punch the ball. The sport originated in Melbourne, Australia, in the late 1850s.
We have a local team based out of Leland (but named after the metro, Wilmington). They will be playing the NC Tigers based out of the Raleigh/Durham area tomorrow night at 7:00 pm at the Town Creek District Park Located at 6420 Ocean Hwy E in Winnabow.
New Medical Office Coming to Brunswick Forest
A new 69,000-square-foot medical office building may be coming to Leland, according to plans submitted by Columbus Regional Healthcare System. The proposed two-story facility would be located on 6.4 acres at the corner of Brunswick Village Boulevard and Provision Parkway in Brunswick Forest. The site plan includes 299 parking spaces and was approved by Leland’s Technical Review Committee in late June. (WWAY)
Habitat for Humanity Info Session Held at BCCC
Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity will soon open applications for eight available home slots, with five located in a new Leland subdivision and three elsewhere in the county. The nonprofit held an information session at Brunswick County Community College, attended by over two dozen people. To qualify, applicants must meet criteria such as residency, income limits, and demonstrated housing need. Residency can include living, working, or attending church in Brunswick County for at least a year. Applications open August 11. (WWAY)
Ankle Monitor Scam Afoot!
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving individuals impersonating deputies and demanding money. In a recent case, a scammer falsely claimed to be a deputy and asked a woman for $800 in “ankle monitor hookup fees” for her husband’s release, even though no release conditions had been set. Authorities emphasize they never request money over the phone and advise the public to hang up and call the Sheriff’s Office directly at 910-253-2777 if they receive such a call. (WWAY)
