Wilmington versus Leland - Who Has the Best Food Truck?

The Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race filmed in Leland and Wilmington in March, with the Best Western Plus Westgate Inn and Suites hosting the upcoming challenge. In this episode, host Tyler Florence tasks competitors with creating the best southern breakfast for a $15,000 prize, judged by Wilmington’s James Beard-nominated chef Lauren Krawl Ivey of Olivero. The episode airs Sunday at 10:00 pm (WWAY)

Carolina Beach Town Council Rejects Proposal for Motorized Vendor Carts on Beach

Carolina Beach pizza shop owner Vinny Doria sought to amend a town ordinance to allow motorized vendor carts on the beach, making it easier for his staff to sell pizza without hauling carts through sand. However, town council members strongly opposed the idea, citing a desire to keep the beach small-scale and limit mechanization. Mayor Lynn Barbee suggested the proposal might have been better received if it had been more specific and demonstrated in detail. Despite the rejection, Doria says he will continue beach sales, though it will be harder on his employees. (WECT)

Plans for Offshore Wind Farms Near Brunswick County Cancelled

An independent study found offshore wind farms off Brunswick County are not cost-effective, leading Duke Energy to drop the project. Initially planned to help meet North Carolina’s 2030 carbon reduction goals, shifting political priorities and high costs halted progress. The proposal faced local opposition, with Commissioner Marty Cooke citing concerns about expense, aesthetics, and potential harm to marine life, though wind advocates dispute links to whale deaths. Supporters argue offshore wind remains important for the state’s renewable energy future and question whether the study fully captured its benefits, but for now, the project is shelved. (WECT)
