Black Bear Spotted in Southport - Stay Safe
According to a Facebook post by the Southport police department, a black bear was spotted in the River Mist Community. Be on the lookout - it’s mating season and bears are hungry. For more info about being wise around bears visit www.bearwise.org.

Burn Ban for Unincorporated Areas of Brunswick and Leland Lifted
The burn ban that was in effect since May 3rd due to the BSL fires was lifted as of Noon yesterday. Burning may resume within 100 feet of occupied structures in unincorporated areas of Brunswick County and in the Town of Leland. If you need a permit to open burn or learn more about fires visit https://www.ncagr.gov/divisions/nc-forest-service.
Sewer Inspection and Cleaning in Southport
Brunswick County Public Utilities will conduct a two-week video inspection and cleaning of the gravity sewer system in Southport, focusing on the 9th Street and Central Lift Station sub-basins. The work, carried out by contractor Sweeping Corporation, is not expected to cause road closures, though temporary lane blockages may occur during equipment setup and breakdown. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained throughout the project. For more information and a map - visit wect.com.
Leland Releases 2024 Public Safety Information
Leland released their Public Safety Summaries for 2024. They can be found at the Town of Leland website. The police reported an average of 1541 calls per month. June was apparently busy for the department as calls for service, traffic stops and traffic citations reached their peaks. The fire department reached another high for calls for service which has been on a growth trend since 2021 - expected due to population rise.

Art Around Town - Painting and Pilates at the Park
Tonight at 6pm at Westgate Nature Park:
Join painter and pilates instructor Pam O'deen for a night of fun! This event will start with a 1-hour mat pilates class followed by an hour of painting. Please bring your own yoga mat to use for the pilates portion. Free to participate. All ages.
The park is located at: Westgate Nature Park, 1260 W Gate Dr in Leland.

Jenga Tournament Tomorrow at BBX
Every Wednesday from April 2 to May 21, bring those steady hands and battle it out to become the official Jenga champion!
The games begin at 7pm. There will be a food truck each week so get there early to fuel up before the game!
A prize will be awarded to each week's winner with a GRAND PRIZE waiting for the player with the most points at the end of the 8 weeks. Visit the Facebook event page for more info AND a link to register.
