Welcome Home Angel, in partnership with interior design students from Cape Fear Community College, renovated the McCain family's home in Navassa to better suit the needs of 19-year-old Matias McCain, who lives with Ring 14, a rare genetic disorder. The project, led by CFCC seniors as part of their capstone, focused on sensory-friendly design inspired by Matias’ love of Willy Wonka, featuring bright colors, a swing, an adjustable couch, and a projector screen. The team also redesigned rooms for Matias’ siblings, incorporating personal themes like Hello Kitty. The McCain family expressed deep gratitude, saying the transformation brought joy, relief, and a renewed sense of home.

Brunswick County Gets Update About Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Brunswick County Commissioners reviewed progress in reducing overdose deaths, with reports showing a 27% decline statewide and nationally from last year. The decrease is credited to increased access to Naloxone and expanded treatment options through Medicaid. While the results are encouraging, officials like Commissioner Laura Trueman emphasize that overdose rates remain higher than pre-pandemic levels and more work is needed to continue the downward trend.
