United States Coast Guard Auxiliary to Hold Boating Safety Course

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a one-day boating safety course on Saturday, June 21, at the Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation in Supply, NC. The eight-hour class (8 a.m.–4 p.m.) meets all North Carolina boating education requirements, especially for those born on or after January 1, 1988, who must complete a certified course to operate motorized vessels.

The course covers:

• Boat maintenance and trip preparation

• Navigation rules

• Safe operation guidelines

• Emergency procedures

• NC boating laws and regulations

Cost: $35 for one person, $30 each for two or more. Cash or check only.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Warns of DMV Text Scam

From the BCSO’s Facebook Page:

A local scam is circulating via text, falsely claiming to be from the DMV. The message threatens license suspension and penalties if a traffic violation isn't paid immediately, and includes a fake payment link.

Key warnings:

• The DMV will not contact you from a random Outlook email.

• The cited law, Section 15C-16.003, does not exist.

• Legitimate agencies do not ask you to “Reply Y” to make payments.

• They will never charge a 35% “toll booth” service fee.

What to do:

• Do not click links, respond, or share personal information.

• Report the message and delete it.

• Contact local officials if you’re unsure. Stay alert and protect your information.

Brunswick Board of Education Meeting Tonight

The Brunswick Board of Education will have a board meeting to discuss the AIG plan for 2025-2028, review the Title IX policy, payroll schedules, budget amendments, and more. You can see the agenda here. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be held in the Cape Fear Room of the Center of Applied Sciences and Technology (The COAST), 1109 Old Ocean Hwy, Bolivia, North Carolina. If you cannot attend in person it will be broadcasted on their YouTube Channel.
