THE NEWS

Art and Beer in Formerly Closed Brewery Location

A former brewery in Leland is getting a second life as the Museum of Beer and Art (MOBA), a new concept blending craft beer, live music, and visual art. Set to open at 9600 Ploof Road—formerly home to Mannkind Brewing, which abruptly closed in December—the venue is aiming for an August debut, pending permits and final preparations. The 5,000-square-foot space will be operated by Jason “Foz” Fosdick, Carl Cross, and Matt Ray, all experienced entrepreneurs in the food, beverage, and entertainment industries.

MOBA will feature signature brews including an IPA and a German Pilsner, along with wine and mixed cocktails. The idea to combine a brewery with an art gallery came from Cross, a seasoned brewer with a background at Flying Machine and Flytrap. The space will host live music, rotating art exhibits, and commissioned local works, with plans to create a vibrant, community-centered environment.

Fosdick hopes MOBA will become a neighborhood hub for both Leland and nearby Belville, capitalizing on rapid regional growth—Leland’s population has increased 47.4% since 2020. Although the craft beer industry nationwide is facing headwinds, Fosdick believes the timing and location make this a strong opportunity. Backed by a team of successful business owners, he’s confident the project will stand out in Brunswick County’s evolving beer scene. (Port City Daily)
