Jackey’s Creek Property Annexed and Rezoned by Leland Town Council

Leland Town Council unanimously voted to annex and rezone more than 1,200 acres known as the Jackey’s Creek property, despite strong public opposition. The land, once tied to a failed baseball stadium plan, is now proposed for a large mixed-use development of about 6,000 homes. While officials say annexation ensures the town can regulate growth and manage services, residents voiced concerns over flooding, traffic, taxes, and infrastructure strain. The site also includes 60 acres for a new elementary school, slated to open in 2028. Rezoning allows for residential and limited commercial use aimed at creating a walkable community. (WECT)
