Grant Awarded to ILM and Other Airports To Give Kids Aviation and Aerospace Experiences

The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation has awarded grants of up to $5,000 each to 12 airports across the state to host aviation and aerospace-themed summer academies for K-12 students. Among the recipients are Wilmington International Airport and Curtis L. Brown Jr. Field Airport in Elizabethtown. These academies aim to inspire students by offering them hands-on learning experiences about aviation, while also highlighting career opportunities in the industry. The initiative supports the state's goal of developing a skilled aviation workforce, with participating airports including locations in Charlotte, Fayetteville, Kinston, and several other cities.
