Brunswick County License Plate Agency Contract Will Be Available

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is accepting applications for a commissioned contractor to operate a license plate agency in Brunswick County. The current agency in Bolivia, operated by Brunswick County Government since 2015, has a contract that expires on November 14th. Interested applicants must submit their completed applications by May 30th. The application forms are available on the Connect NCDOT website.

Law Enforcement Memorial Unveiled

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office unveiled a new Law Enforcement Memorial on Thursday to honor officers who died in the line of duty. The ceremony, held in front of the law enforcement center, featured speeches, a Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, and a reading of fallen officers' names. The memorial includes the names of Sheriff J. Stanland (1908), Deputy I. Skipper (1914), and Deputy J. Brandon Gore (2021). Sheriff Brian Chism stated the tribute serves as a lasting reminder of the honor, courage, and sacrifice of Brunswick County’s fallen heroes. Read more at wwaytv3.com.

Proposed Brunswick County Budget Hearing Next Month

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Monday, June 12 at 3 p.m. to gather community feedback on the proposed 2025–2026 fiscal year budget. Residents can share comments by attending the hearing, emailing [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), or mailing them to the Clerk to the Board at PO Box 249, Bolivia, NC 28422. Leland Budget is Approved

The Leland Town Council has approved a $53 million budget for the 2025–2026 fiscal year, maintaining the current tax rate. Key allocations include $2.95 million for road resurfacing and $1.4 million for emergency contingency funds. The budget adds several public safety and general staff positions, funds new and replacement vehicles for police and fire departments, and includes upgrades like a town mobile app and safety equipment.
