The Brunswick County School Board has decided to move forward with building a new elementary school at the Jackey’s Creek site near Leland Town Center. They aim to open the school, which will serve about 750 pre-K through 5th grade students, by the 2028 school year. The board has purchase agreements for two sites to support plans for two new schools over the next decade. They also approved a $314,000 budget to hire an architect for master planning and amended the current property agreement. (WWAY)

Magnolia Green Home Explosion Reviewed by Council
At Monday's Leland Town Council agenda review meeting, officials continued discussing the May 16 explosion in the Magnolia Greens neighborhood that damaged several homes on Suncrest Way. The public safety director said the incident is believed to be a vapor explosion, possibly originating from a car trunk, though the cause is still unconfirmed. Evidence has been sent to a lab for analysis, with results expected in a few weeks. Mayor Pro Tem Bob Campbell expressed satisfaction with the investigation’s progress and urged patience, emphasizing the importance of sharing accurate updates with residents, the HOA, and the public as more information becomes available.
